Meet the executives who guide Jacob Stern & Sons – Texas.

Vice President Jay Van Valen

Jay joined Jacob Stern & Sons – Texas in June 2011, originally serving as Business Manager. Mr. Van Valen brings deep knowledge of shipping, relationship building, negotiating and logistics to our company. Prior to his employment here, Mr. Van Valen was Vice President at Safe Harbour Tanker Chartering where he brokered and negotiated parcel tanker freight for tallow, specialty chemical and vegetable oils.

Mr.Van Valen graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy with a B.S. in Engineering and holds a USCG Third Assistant Engineer license.

Business Manager Tim Carmack

Tim has served as the Business Manager of Jacob Stern & Sons – Texas since July 2014. Mr. Carmack brings significant supply chain, sourcing, and leadership experience to his role. Prior to joining Jacob Stern & Sons – Texas, he was the Purchasing Manager at Terravici Drilling Solutions and Production Group Leader at Halliburton Energy Services after completing Halliburton’s Supply Chain Management Program.

Mr. Carmack completed his B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Arizona State University and holds an M.B.A from The University of Texas at Austin, McCombs School of Business.

Controller Marvin Pierson

Marvin has served as the Controller of Jacob Stern & Sons – Texas since March of 1982. Prior to joining Jacob Stern & Sons – Texas, he was a Cost Accountant for Dow Chemical in Freeport, Texas. Later, he was an Accounting Manager for Rexene Polymers in Pasadena, Texas. Marvin has extensive experience in financial reporting, general accounting and cost accounting.

Mr. Pierson completed his B.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Iowa and holds an M.B.A from the University of Houston.
